Common Types of Blur and How to Fix Them

Before you unblur image files, it helps to know why they are blurry. Each cause responds differently to AI, so find yours below to see which model to try first.

Motion blur and camera shake

Double edges and streaks appear when the camera or the subject moves during the shot. This is common in low light and with moving kids or pets. Basic cleans up mild shake well. For heavy streaks, try Pro.

Out-of-focus photos

The camera focused on the background, or you were too close to the subject. Basic brings soft subjects back into focus and keeps their real features. For very soft portraits, Pro can rebuild hair and eyelashes, but check the face closely.

Low-resolution and compressed images

Pictures saved from chat apps, social media or old phones often look blocky and smeared. When you unblur image files like these, the AI removes compression artifacts and sharpens edges. Always start from the largest copy of the image you can find.

Old and scanned photos

Tips for sharper results

Upload the original file, not a screenshot or a copy from a chat app. Every copy throws away detail.
HEIC photos from iPhone are not supported yet. Export them as JPG first, or set Settings > Camera > Formats to Most Compatible.
Try Basic first. Move to Pro only if the result is still too soft.
Zoom in on faces and text before you use the result, especially after Pro.

What no AI can fix

Blur or pixelation added on purpose to hide faces, license plates or text. The hidden detail is gone, so any result would be a guess.
Text that is too small or too blurry to read at all. AI may draw letters that look sharp but are wrong.
Photos where you cannot recognize the subject. With nothing to work from, a model can only invent.

How do I unblur an image online?

Uploading and previewing your photo is free. To unblur image files, you use credits: 1 credit per image with Basic and 3 credits with Pro. New accounts get sign-up credits to try it out, and you can buy more on the pricing page.

What is the difference between Basic and Pro?

Basic restores the detail already in your photo, so faces and text stay faithful. Pro uses a generative model to rebuild detail that is mostly gone. It can look sharper, but it may change faces, text or textures. We recommend trying Basic first.

Can AI unblur any image?

No. An unblur image tool works best on mild to moderate blur, where shapes are still visible. If a photo is so blurry that you cannot tell what is in it, any tool can only guess. Always check the result closely before you use it.

Can I unblur a censored or pixelated image?

No. When blur or pixelation is added on purpose to hide a face, license plate or text, the original detail is removed. A tool that claims to reveal it is inventing new content, not recovering the truth. Please only upload images you have the right to use.

What file formats and sizes are supported?

Our unblur image tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 20 MB and 24 megapixels, with each side between 64 and 16,384 pixels. GIF, SVG, HEIC and animated images are not supported, so convert them to JPG or PNG first.

How big is the unblurred result?

Both versions return an HD JPG in your original aspect ratio. The exact size is shown under the result. We never stretch or crop the image to make it look bigger than it is.

Is my photo private?

Yes. Your uploads and results are kept in private storage linked to your account and are never published. Preview and download links are signed and expire within minutes, and we do not use your photos to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What happens if unblurring fails?

If a job fails or takes too long, its credits go back to your balance automatically, and the page shows the status. Running the same image again counts as a new job and uses credits again.

Can I unblur text in a screenshot or document?

Often, yes. Basic can make soft or compressed text easier to read without changing the characters. Pro may redraw letters and numbers, so always check names, figures and codes against the original.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?
